My mother made these baskets for the bathrooms at my sister's wedding, but they could just as easily be used for a flower girl or for a shower. They take very little time to put together and no sewing is required. She bought 1 yard of polyester satin on 39th Street in the garment district as well as 2 white baskets with handles and plastic liners on 28th Street in the floral district. Perhaps it's the libra in me, who always wants things to look pretty. Perhaps, it's the writer in me, who associates paper with my message. Perhaps, it's the organizer in me who sees wrapping paper and ribbon flourishes as the finishing touch. Whatever the reason, I've always been drawn to paper goods. In case you haven't noticed, I'm on a DIY kick lately. Last week, I wrote to you about the DIY bouquets I made for my bridesmaids' communions, all of which could be used for a wedding. While I was working on the bouquets, my mom, Regina Di Meglio, was making edible favors for the guests at all three communion parties. Italians must have fabulous favors or bomboniere at their weddings. They are the talk of the town and become a symbol of your relationship for generations to come. The favors must be the type of elegant, beautiful object that women can display on a hutch or in a china cabinet. So far, I've struck out with most of my ideas.
